The Borinage is a
region of Belgium located in the province of Hainaut, west of Mons. He
is a former mining site, which once gave the coal quantity, this
permitted the development of the region in many industries and
collieries that made Borinage one of the cradles of the industrial
revolution after England.
The Borinage includes municipalities such as Jemappes,
Flénu, Cuesmes, Quaregnon, Wasmuel, Wasmes, Frameries La
Bouverie, Colfontaine, Dour, Pâturages, Saint-Ghislain,
Baudour, Hainin, Hornu, Boussu ...
The closure of mines has unfortunately been one of the poorest regions
of Belgium, having failed industrial conversion.
